About HKNME Emerging Artists 2022-23

Targeted at recently graduated musicians and young professionals, this scheme serves as a platform to provide professional level performance opportunities for local emerging musicians each year in the performance of modern music. The programme is supported by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council.

For the current round, the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble accepts applications for two Emerging Artist positions (project-based for 12 months):

1) Assistant Conductor
2) French Horn / Trombone

Duration of the internship: from 1 July 2022 to 30 June 2023

What to expect

This emerging artist scheme aims at providing training, performance opportunities and possible international exchange. The interns will be offered individual lessons with their mentors, regular public workshops and opportunities to take part in outreach initiatives by the Ensemble. Through participating in various performances with the HKNME, the emerging artists will perform in large-scale productions and occasionally alongside some internationally acclaimed artists and groups, as well as to interact and collaborate with living composers in Hong Kong and abroad. One of the long-term objectives of this programme is to train the potential interns to become a part of the HKNME core line-up, subject to feedback from the Ensemble and administration.

Bursaries for the following Emerging Artist positions will be as follows for a total of nine projects over the course of the HKNME’s 2022-23 season:

1)    Assistant Conductor: $90,000
2)    French horn / trombone: $72,000
